I grew up in a tiny town in Michigan. After high school I went to college for sculpture and fell into welding as a profession. I've worked many jobs that mainly center on making things.
What attracted you to roller derby?
I wanted to try roller derby because I was new to the area and was hoping to get involved with something where I could meet interesting people. And also, facepaint, nicknames, leggings and all I have to do is learn how to roller skate? Pretty good deal, if you ask me.
My mom always encouraged athletics but in a no-pressure sort of way. So I spent many happy seasons in the outfield of softball games as a kid. In middle and high school I did swimming and track. I wasn't very good at any of them, but I always had a good time being part of a team and staying active.
Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel. Many challenges I have faced in life have an allegorical counterpoint in Frog and Toad are Friends.
Favorite Music to skate to:
Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is challenging to both skate and do the dance.
I like many things. I like adventures and people and music and food and sunshine and bones.
Buffalo wings and mean people. I'm from the midwest and we're chronically nice. I just don't know what to do with mean people.
If you ask me to make or repair something and I've never done it before and don't know how to do it, I may tell you I can anyways because I generally assume I can figure it out. This gets me into trouble sometimes.
