Interested in Skating?
We always welcome new skaters. Skating experience is not required. Those who are interested may observe league practices and participate in four practices before deciding if roller derby is the sport for them. In order to scrimmage or bout, skaters must pass a basic skills assessment that include skills like blocking, hitting, stops, and turning around. To help new skaters master these required skills, we offer regular training opportunities where we teach you everything you’ll need to know to pass. After passing assessments, you become eligible to skate during league scrimmages, as well as become eligible to bout.
Regular practices are held twice a week at Sharp's Russell Roller Rink from January - August:
Practices are a great place to introduce yourself to the league and see what we're all about.
Before attending your first practice, we encourage you to contact the league before attending so we know to expect you. This will prepare us to have someone off track to meet and talk with you in order to get you prepared for your first practice.
PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO ALL PRACTICES TO ALLOW TIME TO GEAR UP.
Costs & Equipment
All skaters and league members pay monthly dues. These total $40 a month between January - July, plus an additional $90 a year for USARS Insurance.
Skaters are responsible for all of their own equipment* – this includes quad speed roller skates and full protective gear including a mouth guard, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads.
*Loaners skates and gear are available and may be used until you can purchase your own.
Expectations
Roller Derby is a competitive, full-contact sport and requires that you learn rules and strategy, improve your physical fitness, and communicate with your teammates. The women in our league come from varied athletic backgrounds. Some have no sports experience; some have competed at the college level in sports; some are in between. You don’t need to have any prior experience to join our League. We will teach you what you need to know.
Our league is a family friendly league and children are welcome to attend practices with mom. If they are at an age where supervision is necessary, we can discuss the possibility of having a league-affiliated practice nanny.
The Warrin’ Wrecking Dolls are a non-WFTDA affiliated league. However, we skate under the guidelines established by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and pay for yearly skater insurance.
If you would like to join our league as a skater, please contact us!
