On Saturday night June 3rd, the Warrin’ Wrecking Dolls hosted Dubois’ Northern Alleghany Roller Derby and came away with a win, 196-145, in a bout that remained close the majority of the game. The win keeps the Dolls’ undefeated streak intact as they are now 10-0 through last year.
The Dolls fell behind early with the main problem being penalties. The first half saw the Dolls skating with at least one player in the penalty box often. This forced Warren to run a 2-man defense which allowed NARD to take advantage. But halfway through the first half, with less penalties and a tighter defense, the Dolls were able to regain the lead. In multiple jams, Dubois jammers never made it through the pack and the Dolls’ jammers were able to score for the entire two minutes. Warren never lost the lead again but NARD remained within striking distance the whole game, usually only being down 20 points. Power jams in key points of the bout allowed the Dolls to stretch their lead toward the end of the game. In one of the last jams, Warren jammer Goblynn put up 25 points and put lead out of reach for good. The game ended Warren’s roughest part of their schedule where they played three games within five weeks. It certainly added to the pressure of the bout and has taken a physical toll, as well. The Dolls were down their starting pivot with a concussion from the last game and had a jammer suffer a separated shoulder in Saturday’s bout. The Dolls will have a month and a half to recover and prepare for Cortland, NY’s Seven Valley Rollers on July 22nd.

In their most physical test yet, the Warrin’ Wrecking Dolls came away with a win over the visiting Niagara Roller Girls Saturday night, 166-115, bringing their record to 3-0. The bout started with the Dolls jumping to a 32-4 lead. But, what looked like a blowout was quickly changed thanks to great defensive blocking. Wham and Freek-A-Rella of Niagara repeatedly sent Dolls jammers to the penalty box, allowing their team to close the deficit to 63-60 at the half. Relying heavily on back blocker Tabulous and the teamwork of their front three, the Dolls’ halftime adjustments would see them drive their lead back to 40 points in ten minutes. From there, the Dolls’ never looked back. Even after losing their lead scorer, Goblynn, after fouling out, the Warren jammers stepped up and kept the score out of reach for Niagara. “Having your starter go down means everyone else needs to step up,” said Dolls’ coach Spank. “Rushin Rollette, Maiden Raven and She Hostile delivered. The whole team put forth a great effort in the second half. They stayed focused and never stopped fighting.” Coming up next for the Wrecking Dolls is an away game in Meadville when they take on the Rink Assassins July 9th.
The bout was packed full of hard hits and amazing displays of athleticism and sportsmanship. The Dolls would like to send a huge shout out to the ladies of Niagara and supplements, the fans for cheering us on, the Officials and all the volunteers for making this game a huge success. Today we, the Warrin' Wrecking Dolls, travelled to Clearfield, PA to play against the Backwoods Bruisers of Northern Allegheny Roller Derby. We have spent a little over a year preparing for this moment under the guidance of our coach, Spank. We practice twice a week, Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings, building up our endurance, foot work, technique, strength, stability, and team work. The nerves were high and adrenaline thick as we hit the track for the very first time as a true team. At halftime we gathered up to strategize. Analyzing our game so far, and the best way to move forward. With strong blocking and teamwork, we held off the consistently competitive Bruisers to to bring home our first win in our first bout ever. We would like to thank NARD for their hospitality, as well as the Refs and NSOs for all of their hard work. Also, a huge shout out to all of the fans that made the trip to support our league and the sport of roller derby.
